Over experience


One thing that I will take away from this class was that people who go orchestral concerts are not as snobby or as mean as a lot of people make them to be. When I was a kid, I went to my first orchestral concert with my piano teacher and some of her other students. They were kind of mean to me and I couldn’t really get along with them rather because they were more of a classical music’s kind of kid instead of a diverse music kind of kid. Since the first experience I had always wanted to go back and experience it one more time but, I was scared that people would judge me for not knowing a whole lot about classical music or composers. I really enjoyed the concerts and I plan to go to more in the future. I learned some etiquette on how to attend these kinds of performances from this class and what to expect when it came to dress code. This experience impacted me because I was always nervous to attend these kinds of concerts. I also, thought that these concerts were always going to be very expensive. I learned quickly that these concerts can be very cheap or even free, all I had to do was look online. I ended up getting really exposed to a lot of different composers and I now have new favorites added onto my list like Rachmaninoff and David Ludwig. One of my favorite pieces that I heard so far from going to these concerts was the piece by Rachmaninoff. Here is a performance example of the piece Piano Concerto No. 3

This class impacted my experience in music in general by teaching me to just try something out even if u don’t think you will like because you will never know. Any experience with music is always a good kind of experience that you will remember in the future. When it comes to listening to music this class taught me that live music is a lot better than the audio that was recorded in the studio. Sometimes the playing will sound just like the recorded audio if not better. I have learned to appreciate classical music more just because of the evolution's they went through and the composers who put so much time to write the pieces. A lot of the composers that went through a lot of mental and emotional trials throughout their lives and created these pieces out of their own emotions during the romantic era. Not all classical music will be the same, some will be very loud and interactive, while others are more intense and less interactive. I learned that I don’t have to be a certain way to really enjoy classical music and attend these concerts. Though the fans of these performers do not have crazy fans that flock to them after the concert, which is interesting. I don’t have to feel so old when listening to classical music since so many of my peers also listen to these kinds of music as well. I always thought I was one of the very few young people who listened to classical music since a lot of my friends had no interest in it.

Steel Band & Percussion Ensembles

A concert by the Pacific Lutheran University was held on November 22, 2019. It was a steel Band and percussion Ensembles. This concert was directed by Miho Takekawa and the performers were students that were apart of the percussion program. There was a student conduct, this was something seniors who were about to graduate had to do before they graduated. There were two special performers that were friends of Ms. Takekawa named Rebekah Ko and Storm Benjamin. They were professional percussion player. There were many different pieces and composers that were played during this concert, so I will talk about my top three composers that I had liked from the concert. One was named Michael Udow, he was born 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended the University of Illinois and graduated with the first doctoral degree in percussion performance.
